Gisborne/Hangaroa Party Hunt - 17th - 20th September (17/09/2026)

Hangaroa Party Hunt

This is a private forest block of approx. 1200 ha 8hrs from Auckland in the Gisborne region which holds red and fallow deer plus goats and some pigs. Area is suitable for beginners. Area is mature pine forest with clearings and tracks to most corners, no vehicles allowed in the forest.

Being an autumn hunt we can target all animals. Stags will be wandering around and still in antler. There will be plenty of opportunity to shoot goats plus good numbers of deer.

Accommodation is large shearers quarters with bunks, kitchen, ablution block, running water etc. Need to bring sleeping bag, toiletries, food, cooker etc. Transport should be SUV or 4WD. Road in is not suitable for low or small cars.

Leave Thurs 17th am and return Sunday 20th pm (option to stay on and return Monday)

Topo map ref is BG41 and BG42 and bring GPS/Garmin/map etc. (38.669 177.545)

Transport. Arrange shared transport to save on fuel as long way to travel.

Limited to 8 participants. Briefing documents will be sent out to successful candidates. As we have a high level of interest in party hunts this will be run through a ballot process. 8 names will be drawn and successful applicants contacted shortly after this. Note: we have two party hunts planned this weekend, please indicate which is your preferred hunt if applying for both.

Cost is $30 per person. Registrations close and Ballot drawn on Monday 31st August.

Lake Tarawera Party Hunt 26th - 29th September (26/09/2026)

Lake Tarawera Party Hunt

We’re opening registrations for a Lake Tarawera hunt running from Sat 26^th to Tues 29^th September. This trip is boat‑access only, and will be camping at Hot Water Beach on the lake edge. We’ll be ferrying everyone across, so please pack reasonably light to make the crossings smooth. If you’d prefer to bring your own boat, that’s all good too!

Hot Water Beach sits inside the Lake Tarawera Scenic Reserve, surrounded by classic Tarawera bush – podocarp, fern gullies, and open pockets that make for good stalking. The area holds red deer, pigs, and wallabies, and there’s also excellent trout fishing if you want to bring a rod.

Once selected, you’ll need to book your own campsite through DOC. Brian Sims will be leading this one & will be taking the boys, so feel free to get the kids and partner involved if they are club members. The NZDA hunt cost for this event is $30 per person.

We are hosting an information evening with Nicole McKee to provide members and invited guests with an opportunity to hear about the ALL NEW Arms Act, understand the proposed changes, and ask questions directly.

The evening will provide a valuable opportunity for members to stay informed and engage in an open Q&A session with Nicole.
